150 firefighters passed away in the last year, including 3 line-of-duty deaths.
MAHWAH, NJ — U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) joined the New Jersey and New York Volunteer Firefighters Association’s memorial ceremony honoring the more than 150 firefighters who died in the last year, including three tragically killed in the line of duty.
“In Isaiah, there’s a passage that says: Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying ‘Whom shall I send and who will go for us?’ and I said ‘Here I am, send me,”’ said Congressman Josh Gottheimer, a member of the bipartisan Congressional Fire Services Caucus. “That’s what these brave firefighters did every day. Throughout their lives, they felt the need, they felt the call to be sent in, and they ran. I couldn’t have more respect for the critical and dangerous work that our firefighters take on — heading directly into the fire and danger when others are heading out. And because of that, we must always get their backs.”
Gottheimer was joined by first responders, firefighters, law enforcement, community leaders, and North Jersey families.
