The New York Giants continued their training camp with the sixth practice session, marked by several notable performances on both offense and defense.
During 1-on-1 drills, rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart connected twice with wide receiver Montrell Washington for touchdowns of 40 yards each. Both plays involved challenging throws and catches.
“I don’t want to play like a robot,” Dart said. “I think that’s just my play style. When I’m on the field, I’m going to be aggressive in any situation. A statement that, I guess a quote that we go by in the quarterback room is being aggressive but not reckless. And so, when you have opportunities to put the dagger in, that’s what you got to do.
“And at the same time, you can’t be reckless and it’s just situational based as an offense. You look at the turnover margins and the turnover ratio of the most successful teams in the league to the least successful team, and that’s probably the number one thing that goes into it. So, you have to keep those things in mind, but at the same time you got to be a dog on the field and make those plays when they’re there.”
In team drills, veteran quarterback Russell Wilson found tight end Daniel Bellinger for a red-zone touchdown following a rollout to his right. Running backs Devin Singletary and Dante Miller also scored rushing touchdowns.
Dart threw another touchdown pass to Lil’Jordan Humphrey near the front right pylon, while Tommy DeVito hit undrafted rookie Dalen Cambre for a potential score before rookie cornerback TJ Moore forced a fumble at the goal line—a play likely subject to replay review under game conditions.
Wide receiver Darius Slayton finished practice with a contested touchdown catch from Wilson, who maneuvered in the pocket to extend the play.
On defense, linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles made an impact with a run stop early in practice after joining the team this offseason. Rookie outside linebacker Abdul Carter contributed with pressure leading to a would-be sack of Wilson and nearly stripped him on another occasion. Defensive lineman Elijah Garcia stopped another running attempt.
Linebackers Darius Muasau and Bobby Okereke each broke up passes intended for tight ends Theo Johnson and Greg Dulcich respectively. Cornerbacks Deonte Banks and Korie Black also prevented completions during red-zone work.
The Giants’ offense avoided turnovers during this session of camp.
Remaining open practices are scheduled for July 31 through August 2, August 4, and August 13 when they will hold a joint practice with the Jets.
