Before making significant plays, Jaxson Dart had to process information from Lane Kiffin. The Ole Miss head coach praised Dart on the “Giants Huddle” podcast, stating, “He really is a quick learner, really can see everything and can chunk information.” Kiffin added that Dart’s dedication is evident as he works hard to overcome challenges.

Chunking, a learning technique used in various fields, involves grouping information into meaningful pieces. This method is useful for understanding complex playbooks and executing strategies on the field. Dart’s final college season was notable for being the first year of using coach-to-player communication during games.

Kiffin noted that some players might find this overwhelming due to the volume of information received before plays are executed. However, Dart handled it well: “He was great with that.”

The flow of information has continued under Brian Daboll, another former Alabama offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Alongside Mike Kafka and other staff members, Daboll is preparing Dart for future opportunities. Daboll explained their approach: “I’d say the philosophy in general is to throw a lot at all these guys… by the third time they hear it, they’re usually a lot more comfortable with the information.”

Daboll commended Dart’s progress: “He’s picking up the information… He’s smart. He’s aggressive with the football, which I like.” The true test will come with live hitting and preseason games.

Dart’s aggression impressed teammates and coaches but also required adjustment. Kiffin recalled how everyone noticed when Dart ran over linebackers early in his tenure at Ole Miss. “We worked with him a lot on that,” said Kiffin.

Dart’s father played safety at Utah, influencing his style. Kiffin compared him to Eli Manning but noted his defensive personality sometimes takes over.

In terms of leadership, Dart’s charisma developed over three years in Oxford after starting his college career at USC. Kiffin remarked on his impact across all team areas: “He’s just a really great person… He leads by example.”

Kiffin concluded by praising Dart’s upbringing and awareness: “He’s got great parents… so he’s really got the complete package.”
