After opening training camp in the low red zone, the New York Giants moved to the high red zone on Thursday. The practice session featured 1-on-1 drills for the first time this year, producing many highlights.
Russell Wilson led the charge with three touchdowns during 1-on-1 drills inside the 10-yard line. His targets included tight end Theo Johnson and wide receivers Darius Slayton and Malik Nabers. Rookie Jaxson Dart also impressed by throwing five touchdowns to various receivers including Zach Pascal and Montrell Washington. Undrafted rookie Da’Quan Felton made a notable touchdown catch as well.
In other action, Jameis Winston connected with Devin Singletary and others for touchdowns. Tommy DeVito added scores with Cam Skattebo and Dante Miller.
The session progressed to 11-on-11 drills where Dart found Jalin Hyatt in the end zone. Wilson displayed his deep ball skills with a touchdown pass to Wan’Dale Robinson.
Defensively, cornerbacks Dru Phillips and Tre Hawkins III each recorded interceptions. Safety Tyler Nubin and cornerbacks Deonte Banks and O’Donnell Fortune contributed by forcing incompletions during drills.
Linebacker Bobby Okereke broke up two passes, while Brian Burns timed a snap perfectly for a tackle for loss. Defensive lineman Elijah Garcia contained a quarterback play effectively, and Kayvon Thibodeaux recorded a would-be sack.
The Giants’ training camp continues with several open practices scheduled through August 13th, including a joint practice with the Jets.
