The New York Giants have signed running back Jonathan Ward and linebacker K.J. Cloyd following injuries at those positions.
As part of the roster changes, the team waived/injured running back Rushawn Baker and placed linebacker Ty Summers on injured reserve.
Ward, who stands 6 feet tall and weighs 202 pounds, has appeared in 47 NFL games over five seasons with the Arizona Cardinals (2020-2022), Tennessee Titans (2022-2023), and Pittsburgh Steelers (2024). He also spent a brief period on the New York Jets’ practice squad in 2022. Last season, Ward played four games for the Steelers, including a Week 8 matchup against the Giants. During the 2024 season, he logged 59 snaps on special teams and 10 on offense before being released by Pittsburgh on June 20, 2025.
Ward began his professional career as an undrafted rookie on the Cardinals’ practice squad in 2020. His NFL statistics include 22 carries for 91 yards and six receptions for 52 yards with one touchdown.
Before joining the NFL, Ward played college football at Central Michigan. Over four years and 41 games, he rushed for 2,539 yards and scored 28 touchdowns while catching 98 passes for another 909 yards and four touchdowns. As a senior team captain in 2019, Ward ran for a career-high 1,108 yards and recorded 15 touchdowns to earn All-MAC honors.
Currently, Eric Gray remains sidelined due to a knee injury and is on the physically unable to perform list. Rookie Cam Skattebo has also missed time but is considered day-to-day. The Giants began Tuesday with three healthy running backs: Tyrone Tracy Jr., Devin Singletary, and Dante Miller.
K.J. Cloyd returns to the Giants after signing with them last August before being released ahead of final roster cuts. He later joined the Denver Broncos’ practice squad during last season but was released in May. Cloyd went undrafted out of Miami and has yet to play in an NFL regular-season game.
The Giants are scheduled to begin their preseason this Saturday in Buffalo.
