The New York Giants returned to the practice field on Thursday following a day off, conducting a two-hour session in shoulder pads and shorts. The weather was hazy and humid, with temperatures in the 80s.
Because the team was not fully padded, there were no one-on-one drills between offensive and defensive linemen. After focusing on running plays earlier in the week, Thursday’s practice shifted attention to passing situations on early downs and third downs.
The offense produced several notable plays during the session. Quarterback Russell Wilson connected with Malik Nabers for a long completion of over 50 yards. Wilson also found Wan’Dale Robinson on a slant route; Robinson managed to separate from defender Dru Phillips and gained significant yardage after the catch. Jaxson Dart contributed another big play by hitting Montrell Washington for a diving catch over the middle.
Montrell Washington later caught short passes from both Wilson and Jameis Winston. On defense, Art Green broke up two passes thrown by Winston—one on a deep post route and another down the left sideline.
Jevon Holland nearly intercepted a pass by jumping an out route near the right sideline. Tre Hawkins forced an incompletion covering Lil-Jordan Humphrey late in practice during a situational drill known as “move the ball.”
Other defensive highlights included Kayvon Thibodeaux batting down a pass at the line of scrimmage, Tomon Fox disrupting a screen pass, Chauncey Ghoslton generating pressure in the backfield, Brian Burns forcing Wilson out of the pocket, Micah McFadden registering what would have been a sack against Tommy Devito, and Dyontae Johnson, Raheem Layne, and Ty Summers making stops near the line of scrimmage on runs and short passes.
