After a day off, the New York Giants returned to practice on Sunday, working for two hours in mild weather conditions. The team focused on second-and-long and third-down situations, testing both offensive and defensive units in passing scenarios.
The session began with notable plays during 7-on-7 drills. Russell Wilson connected with Darius Slayton on a flag route, but Dru Phillips managed to break up the pass. On the following play, Micah McFadden and Darius Muasau combined to prevent a completion to Theo Johnson. Jaxson Dart later completed a similar throw to Johnson.
Head coach Brian Daboll addressed the media about Jameis Winston’s confidence and his ability to throw into tight spaces. Winston demonstrated this by completing a slant pass to Bryce Ford-Wheaton between defenders. Ford-Wheaton was later taken off the field due to a leg injury. Wan’Dale Robinson also left practice but stayed on the sideline.
Darius Slayton made one of the day’s most memorable plays with a one-handed catch along the left sideline on a well-placed ball from Wilson, despite close coverage from Cor’Dale Flott. Shortly after, Dru Phillips tipped a quick pass intended for Malik Nabers, allowing Jevon Holland to intercept it and return it for what could have been a touchdown.
Jaxson Dart found Ihmir Smith-Marsette on a deep crossing route and Winston completed consecutive passes over the middle—one to Ford-Wheaton against pressure and another to rookie Thomas Fidone II.
Russell Wilson later hit Malik Nabers with a deep pass near the left sideline, which Nabers turned upfield before stepping out of bounds. Jameis Winston followed with an accurate throw down the sideline to Dalen Cambre; several teammates celebrated with Cambre after the catch.
During competitive periods at the end of practice, Wilson led an efficient drive capped by a designed quarterback run for a touchdown. Dart’s unit advanced inside the ten-yard line but was stopped by Ty Summers in the backfield and strong defensive play on fourth down prevented any score.
The offense attempted hard counts twice during practice; Wilson was unsuccessful in drawing defenders offsides while Dart succeeded using cadence techniques he practiced during an offseason interview with Jon Gruden.
