The New York Giants continued their preparations for the upcoming season with a practice session held in high temperatures. Coach Brian Daboll and several players, including linebacker Micah McFadden, tight end Theo Johnson, and safety Jevón Holland, spoke to the media about the team’s progress.
The focus of the day was on improving the run defense. Last season, the Giants ranked 27th in rushing yards allowed. To address this, they added new players such as Roy Robertson-Harris and Chauncey Golston. McFadden emphasized that improving run defense requires teamwork and communication. “The run game is holistic,” he said. “It takes everybody.”
Coach Daboll reiterated that better team play is necessary for defensive improvement. “We weren’t where we needed it to be (last year) but the run defense is a collective team thing,” he stated.
On offense, Theo Johnson discussed adjusting to new quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston. He noted a learning curve in adapting to Wilson’s style but praised his impact on the team. “The energy he brings to the building every day is just infectious,” Johnson said.
Safety Jevón Holland talked about working alongside Tyler Nubin and cornerback Paulson Adebo. Holland highlighted Nubin’s communication skills and expressed comfort with Adebo due to their similar experiences.
Former offensive lineman Justin Pugh visited the Giants’ facility to announce his retirement from professional football after an 11-year career with both the Giants and Cardinals. Pugh reflected on his time in the NFL: “To the fans, it’s been an amazing ride.”
