The Giants.com team recently evaluated four statements regarding the New York Giants’ defensive performance predictions, deciding whether each statement was fact or fiction.
The first statement discussed the possibility of multiple Giants players achieving double-digit sacks for the first time since 2010. John Schmeelk expressed confidence, stating, “It’s going to happen this year,” citing players like Dexter Lawrence and Brian Burns as potential candidates. Dan Salomone disagreed, noting that while it has happened seven times in franchise history, achieving double-digit sacks is challenging. Matt Citak agreed with Schmeelk, believing at least two players will reach 10+ sacks.
The second statement predicted that the Giants’ defense would record at least 12 interceptions in 2025. All three analysts agreed this was a fact. Schmeelk highlighted past performances and new additions like Paulson Adebo and Jevon Holland as reasons for optimism. Salomone emphasized the team’s focus on turnovers, while Citak pointed to improvements in both offense and defense as contributing factors.
Regarding sending multiple defensive players to the Pro Bowl, all analysts concurred this was likely. Schmeelk anticipated Dexter Lawrence’s selection and possibly others like Brian Burns or Kayvon Thibodeaux joining him. Salomone echoed this sentiment, mentioning rookie Abdul Carter’s potential impact. Citak also expected multiple Pro Bowl selections from the defensive front.
Finally, opinions diverged on whether the Giants’ defense would lead the NFC East in sacks. Schmeelk remained skeptical due to challenging opponents early in the season but acknowledged their talent. Salomone believed they could surpass last year’s second-place finish behind Dallas Cowboys’ 52 sacks with new additions like Abdul Carter. Citak supported this view, citing past performance and improvements in personnel.
