In the opening quarter of 2026, Bergen New Bridge Medical Center emerged as the leading nursing home in Bergen County by size, as reported by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The facility was equipped with 574 beds, surpassing the Bergen County average by 403 beds as of the first quarter of 2026. Throughout this period, the center attended to an average of 357.1 residents daily.

Bergen New Bridge Medical Center received an overall 5-out-of-5 rating from CMS, exceeding the New Jersey nursing home average of 3.4.

New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home at Paramus ranked as the county’s second largest with 336 beds, while Christian Health Care Center placed third with 304 beds available during the quarter.

For the first quarter of 2026, Bergen New Bridge Medical Center reported no fines or penalties issued against it.

Altogether, Bergen County, New Jersey, had four non-profit nursing homes.

The U.S. Census Bureau estimates that the older American population is steadily rising, while younger groups are shrinking. From 2020 to 2024, Americans age 65 and older grew by 13%, while those under 18 decreased by 1.7%. Over the last century, the country’s older adult population saw significant growth, rising from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.

A 2021 analysis indicates that close to half of this age group, about 28 million people, are likely to need long-term services and supports, with more than one third projected to require nursing home care at some point.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education association. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
